Antoni Tapies is a spanish artist who was most prolific from the 50s on until he died at the age of 88 in 2012. He is apparantly considered one of the most famous European artist of that time. Well luckily we were told it was okay to write about someone who's are we dont like that much. I picked the best ones out of all the images I could find on the internet and the only real appeal of them to me is that someone had the guts to call them finished artworks. The surface treatment has its moments, but then seems to fall flat in parts without fail in every work of his I have seen. It does create an emotional reaction with me, but that is more just the shock that people consider him to be a true master. I feel like sometimes artists come along and believe the hype that people spread about their early work, or maybe they become too political for my tastes, but whatever it is I know one thing...

...if I hired a "master" to paint a mural for my festival and came back to see this, somebody aint getting paid!!!
But what I have to learn from this artist is that a reaction from the audience is a powerful thing no matter what it is. Also that with confidence comes the ability to not overwork something. The ability to trust myself to call something finished when I first have the feeling that it is done, and not to worry what the class, or my fellow artists will think of how little has been done completely eludes me at this point in my career and I need to work on that.
